How to protect your card and money from scammers
Calls “from the bank”, fake buyers and prize messages — the most common schemes and the simple rules that protect you from them. · 5 min read
The most common schemes
Scammers almost never hack a bank — they persuade people to hand over data or money themselves.
- A call from the “bank security team”: “there is a suspicious payment on your card, tell us the SMS code”.
- A buyer on a classifieds site who asks for card details or sends a link “to receive the payment”.
- A message about a prize, a parcel or a refund that requires “a small fee”.
- A message from a “relative” on a new number: “I am in trouble, send money urgently”.
Rules that protect you
- Never share an SMS code, CVV or PIN — not with the “bank”, not with the “police”. A real bank never asks for them.
- In doubt? Hang up and call the bank yourself on the number printed on the back of your card.
- To receive money, a card number is enough. A buyer asking for the expiry date, CVV or a code is a scammer.
- Do not follow links from messages — open your banking app yourself.
- Use a separate card for online shopping and keep a small balance on it.
- Turn on notifications for every card transaction.
If it has already happened
Block the card immediately in the app or by calling the bank, then report it to the bank and the police. The faster you act, the better the chance to stop the payment. Keep the messages, phone numbers and call times.
Moldonyan Finance does not connect to banks and never asks for card details: the app stores only what you recorded yourself.
